Outlook 2013 error: We’re sorry, but Outlook has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly

I recently saw this Outlook error dialog box.

We’re sorry, but Outlook has run into an error that is preventing it from working correctly. Outlook will need to be closed as a result. Would you like us to repair now?

The other possible symptoms are:
1. Clicking the “Repair Now” button does not actually fix the problem.
2. The Outlook header may show it as unlicensed or a non commercial copy.
3. Google Chrome does not open.

The solution was to reinstall Google Chrome.

Adobe Application Manager Error

The Adobe Application Manager and the Adobe Application Updates in the Quick Launch toolbar or the system tray may experience problems downloading the updates. The error is “The update server is not responding. The server might be offline temporarily, or the internet or firewall setting may be incorrect. Please try again later.”

The solution is to disable the “Microsoft Virtual WiFi Miniport Adapter” under Control Panel | Network and Internet | Network Connections.

GoDaddy Migration of Hosted Exchange to Office 365 May Cause Problem for Microsoft Outlook

Recently, one of my clients who uses GoDaddy’s Hosted Exchange service was migrated to Office 365. This client also uses Microsoft Outlook 2010 and 2013. In theory, the configuration should be simple because of the autodiscover service. It is much simpler for Microsoft Outlook 2011 for Mac and iOS devices.

However, there was a gotcha for Windows. GoDaddy sent a temporary password for Office 365 to the users. This will most likely cause the users or the admin to reset the password. If you use the old password from the Hosted Exchange, it may not work due to the stricter password requirements. You will likely create a new password.

If this is the case, when you create a new email account, it will fail with the following message. “An encrypted connection to your mail services is not available. Click Next to attempt using an unencrypted connection.” If you try an unencrypted connection, it also fails.

The problem lies in saved credentials. You will have to delete the credentials with the email address and the old password.

Here is a procedure that worked well for me.
1. Go to the Control Panel.
2. Open Credential Manager.
3. Delete credentials with the email address.
4. Run msconfig.
5. Under the General tab, select “Selective startup.”
6. Checked “Load system services” and unchecked “Load startup items.”
7. Click “OK.”
8. Reboot.
9. Go to the Control Panel.
10. Open Mail.
11. Go to “Email Accounts …”.
12. On the Email tab, remove the old email account.
13. Create the new email account.
14. Run msconfig.
15. Under the General tab, select “Normal startup.”
16. Reboot.
17. Open Outlook and allow it to download contents to your folders.

Get Microsoft Conference Sessions

Let’s face it. In our globally connected world, technology do not revolve only around Silicon Valley and Redmond. Companies have conferences all over the world throughout the year. Sometimes important announcements and techniques are shown at them.

It is not feasible to attend these far away conferences due to constraints of finances and time.

Thanks to Tim Nilimaa, we can now watch session videos at some of these Microsoft conferences.

Download the session downloader at: http://infoworks.tv/wp-content/uploads/sessiondownloader/publish.htm

Select from a list of available conferences and watch the available videos.

Windows Server 2003 End of Life

WS-EOL-Campaign_500

Earlier this year, we saw the end of the beloved Windows XP operating system. Now Microsoft has announced the end of support of Windows Server 2003. The last day of support will be July 14, 2015.

Now is the time to plan for an upgrade. Depending on the role of server, migration is not trivial. Contact me if you need assistance with your migration planning.

Silicon Valley Code Camp

CodeCamp at FootHill College.

Let me start by saying, I love Silicon Valley Code Camp! I love the variety of topics. I love the presenters. I love the concept. I love the price (Free!). Most of all, I love that they have sessions for kids. I think it’s absolutely amazing, needed and inspiring.

This year’s event will be held on October 11th & 12th at Foothill College. It should draw about 3,000 professional developers and aspiring developers. It is a great place to meet people, vendors and recruiters.

Please look into it for yourself, your friends and any little ones who might be interested.
